Freddie has volunteered with Habitat both globally and locally, as part of Habitat's 'House to Home' project, renovating homes in Belfast for the most vulnerable. Read her Advent reflection below.

One of my favourite things about Advent is getting notes and letters inside Christmas cards from friends with their family news and photos.

One e-card, received unexpectedly Christmas 2010, caught my breath and brought tears to my eyes.

The houses we had worked on together in October 2010 had become warm, secure homes! What a privilege to work with the partner families and other Habitat Big Builders to help make this happen. It is a little like all the small lights on a Christmas tree shining together to fill the room with light.

Prayer

Heavenly Father

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of your son Jesus into this world to bring light, rescue and hope; as we hear the words

“She (Mary) gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger, because there was no room in the hostel”

help us to remember the many families around the world who don’t have a decent home or who have had to flee from their home and need shelter. Please give us opportunities to help provide security and hope.

In your name

Amen
