Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland opened its Habitat ReStore in Ballymena on Saturday.

Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland opened its Habitat ReStore in Ballymena on Saturday. The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Cllr Audrey Wales MBE, cut the ribbon to officially open the low-cost DIY store.

Habitat ReStore is a social enterprise which sells donated new and used building and home improvement materials. The shop and donation centre are located at Bridge Park, Larne Road, beside Dunelm and Jollyes, and are open Wednesday – Saturday, 9am-5pm.

This is the second Habitat ReStore in Europe. The first store opened in Lisburn 3 years ago and has had a significant impact on the local community. It enables local families to improve their homes at low-cost and provide volunteering and training opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities. It also diverts tons of reusable material from landfill and raises funds to support Habitat for Humanity’s work.

Jenny Williams, Chief Executive of Habitat NI, said:  “We are delighted to open Habitat ReStore in Ballymena and so much appreciate all the local support which has helped to make it happen. We are excited about providing home improvement materials at low-cost to local families and working with volunteers of all backgrounds and abilities.”

“There is a great team in the store under the leadership of local woman Isobel Kerr. We look forward to welcoming local people to Habitat ReStore to see what it is all about it. We need customers, volunteers and donations and would love to talk to anyone who is interested in getting involved.”
